Welcome To OHCCDD!
OHCC Democracy Defenders is an Indivisible Group, a grassroots movement of thousands of local Indivisible groups with a mission to elect progressive leaders and rebuild our democracy.
Mission Statement
   • OHCC Democracy Defenders was formed to create a safe space for like-minded individuals to discuss, share, and stay engaged in defending democracy from the authoritarian actions of the current administration and its enablers.
   • The goal is to provide support, share credible information, and reduce the stress that can come from the overwhelming amount of political news and opinions.
   • This is a collaborative group, meaning everyone’s input matters. While leaders will facilitate discussions and share key updates, this group belongs to all of us.
   • We will discuss strategies for staying engaged, supporting each other, and taking meaningful action in ways that align with our shared values.
A Non-Partisan Space for Engagement
OHCC Democracy Defenders is open to all who believe democracy is at risk. Unlike partisan political groups, this collective focuses on the broader issue of democratic integrity, welcoming diverse perspectives while fostering respectful dialogue.
Looking Ahead
As OHCC Democracy Defenders continues to grow, its members remain committed to their mission: staying informed, supporting each other, and finding effective ways to protect the democratic process. Whether through community discussions, advocacy efforts, or voter education, this movement stands as a testament to the power of grassroots action.
In addition to monthly meetings, the group will be participating in peaceful demonstrations throughout San Diego County.

History of OHCC Democracy Defenders
What started as a simple email invitation has grown into a powerful grassroots movement for civic engagement within the OHCC community. Resident Sue Porter, driven by a deep concern for the state of democracy, reached out to sixteen friends and family friends to form a support group dedicated to defending democratic values.
Word spread quickly, and by the time of the first meeting on February 24th, an astonishing 85 people had reserved spots—only to be surpassed by an overwhelming turnout of approximately 130 attendees. The enthusiasm and urgency behind the cause were undeniable.
Since then, the group, now officially named OHCC Democracy Defenders – an Indivisible Group, has grown to almost 450 members. The rapid expansion reflects the strong desire among residents to engage in meaningful discussions and actions to uphold democratic principles.
